Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a follower of Christ who enjoys adventures, traveling, sports, and creativity. While I don't know what graduation in May 2012 will bring, I hope to have all of these things apart of what I'm doing.
Birthday:
January 13, 1989
Why I'm involved in Venture Expeditions:
I love Venture's mission: Benefit the world and discover your soul. Two years ago, my world was flipped on its head because I participated in the Kilimanjaro 2010 trek. I experienced God through physical sacrifice, serene nature, and compassionate people. I thrived under challenging conditions and discomfort. I grew closer to the person that I want to be. Throughout all of this, our team blessed an under-resourced school in an African slum. The process of restoring dignity is a beautiful thing. I am so excited to embark on a new journey across the United States for Blood:Water Mission. Co-leading the 2012 Ride:Well Southern tour is a risk that I am excited and nervous for all at once. The tour will pose a number of new challenges to me. However, working to provide clean water and relief from HIV/AIDS to the needy is something that will be worth the discomfort. Venture is the synthesis of my many passions.

Now what

Well, I pretty much got my whole perspective on life rocked by this trip.

So it's now my duty to be the voice of what I experienced, starting with climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. I over-prepared for the climb in getting the correct gear, vaccinations and drugs, physical training, and mental toughness so that I would for sure make it to the summit. I felt very confident up until I arrived in Nairobi to meet the rest of the team and then the guides and heard about this thing called AMS (Acute… Continue

Pink blankets

As I've just returned to the states, the realization has come upon me that I will miss dearly the hot pink blankets of my hotel room bed which I shared with Andrew from Canada and Nick from Tenessee. But that's not all I've grown to have a new appreciation for. Every single person on the team has blessed me in a unique way and it is clear that this team has been a God-given gift. Even at 2am on the day of departure, we still couldn't get enough of each other. Praise God. Well Friday certainly… Continue

More than happiness

A blessing. That is exactly what Kenya Children's Fund Kinyago-Dandora School is to the students. These kids have true hope. The kind of hope hat ignores the fact that they are living in the largest slum in east Africa. The kind of hope that doesn't view their situation as dismal, unsanitary, unhealthy, and sad. The kind of hope that views life as something not worth trading for anything. This hope that only comes from a true relationship with Christ has been instilled into the children and is… Continue

Plank to the eye

Sometimes life throws you a curveballs, today, one hit me in the eye. It was in the form of wood. As we were using our fancy cirular saw that was bought especially for this bench-building project without glasses, God changed the course of the day. In a split second, as I was powering through a piece of wood, a splinter projectile found the path which led straight to my eye. After much lisene, water to the eye, and prayer, it was clear that this was not an ordinary problem. Jane drove Ginger and… Continue
