Looking forward to the ride and making new friends! For now my question involves bike choice:
2006 Cannondale Six 13 IMAG0770.jpgfull ultegra- 16 lbs This is my main bike that i ride about 3500 miles per year but it is a stiff aluminum and carbon mix. Upside is I have lots of mile on it and know it well. 2008 K2 5.0 IMAG1072.jpg carbon with full 105s. Picked this up this week from a guy needing money, he sold it to me for a cheap price. It needs a tune up but I commuted 36 miles on it today and it rides really smooth. I was surprised how nice carbon rides, like a cady. My wife rides a new Look and kept hyping carbon, I just thought she was trying to make me jealous. But I could get this thing ready for the long trip and it seems to be really, really comfortable although a few pounds heavier and not as quick feeling. 1988 Peugeot- IMAG0822.jpgSteel, heavy but really smooth! Not really a consideration because it is 11 pounds heavier than the Cannondale. I keep my bikes super clean and working perfect so they all could make the 766 miles in 2 weeks. What would you ride given the 3 choices? And why? |

Sold 3 bikes last week and bought a 2012 Cannondale Supersix! That will solve it.

First: Congratulations man! I'm super excited for you to go on a tour!
If you already ride it a lot, take the Cannondale. It's what you know and what you like riding. You might be a bit sore at the end of the day, though.
This might sound odd, but I'd choose the Peugeot next, again because of its familiarity. Also, as a bike mechanic who has yet to own a sub-20 lbs geared bike , I can tell you few things make you faster than riding old steel long distances :)
I'd pick the K2 last simply because of how new it is to you. Also, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the carbon isn't anywhere near the quality of your wife's Look...those are handmade in France, the K2 was probably laid down in a factory in China.
Keep it real! Let me know if I can answer any questions!
