It's been a long cold overcast winter. My mind has been very busy all week. Everyday the weather man said it was going to be sunny in the sixties. Well today was Thursday and I finally saw the sun, and it was sixty two degrees. Its amazing how good the sun can make you feel. I rode my bike outdoors today with Iron Mike. We had fun we took pictures of each other riding. I am trying not to think about "training" for this summer's ride, but each time I get to ride, I just want to enjoy it.....

When I was a kid I got a new bike,it was green. My parents took me to a real bike shop and let me pick out the one I wanted. They said it was a reward for being good and for helping to take care of my sister Nancy, who had cerebral palsy and mental retardation. I loved that bike I felt free when I rode it. I felt special. Learning to ride a two wheeler back then was just the best.My friends and I would have races and set up jumps. We would ride in the woods and on the sidewalks on our street. In the summer we would ride to our ball games or to the playground or tennis courts.Biking was our freedom. Our parents didn't drive us everywhere we just rode.We had lots of fun.So then as you get older life gets busy. I got married at 20 yrs, had two daughters and worked alot.I gave up riding.... But sometime in the late 1990's I met a friend who biked alot. She asked me to join her one day.Just a short ride on a safe bike path in Burlington Vt. I got on one of my girls bikes, rode two miles, I was breathing so hard I thought I was going to die.I didn't. I just kept on riding every day just a little more, a little farther.I began to like it. So I have been riding on and off for a few years. I don't go very fast, and there are days when I don't go at all. There have been some times over the past year when I have ridden with people who didn't appreciate my slower speed, and that robbed me of some joy. So I have decided not to train, but take every ride as a gift from God, let my spirit soar, and enjoy it .....And as my husband always says..."It's not how you ride it's how you ride in"....
